Description
Church View Old Reading Room is a semi-detached house and flat located on Todenham Main Street. It consists of two phases of construction from the 18th century, with the initials and date WFA/1713 inscribed on a datestone towards the right at first floor level. There is a 19th-century extension and restoration. The building is made of coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring a concrete tile roof, an ashlar stack, a brick stack on an ashlar stump, and an artificial stone stack.
The rectangular plan was extended to the left in the 18th century and again in the 19th century. The structure has two storeys and an attic, which is lit by two 2-light 20th-century metal casements. The façade has four windows across six bays, including three stone mullioned cross windows and one stone mullioned casement, all of which have stopped hoods and leaded lights. There are also two tall 2-light 20th-century casements with glazing bars, and a 12-pane sash window located far left above 20th-century double doors. The doors have a concrete lintel and brick infill to the left.
To the right, there is a plank door set in a plain flat-chamfered surround, and a central 2-panelled door in a flat chamfered surround with a flat hood supported on moulded brackets. The building features flat gable end coping, a gable end stack, and an axial stack. The interior has not been inspected.
