Description
The water pump, located at the fork at the top of the lane, is a village pump or conduit head installed in 1894 by the Calcutts of Avening Park. It is made of cast iron and features a small fluted column with a spout on the front and a domed top with a finial. This pump is one of seven similar pumps in the village of Avening, all fed from a large reservoir at the west end of the village. It serves as an interesting example of Victorian water supply provided by an estate to its tenants.
