Description
This large barn, dating from the late 18th century, is located opposite and south of the Church of St. George in Hampnett Village. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a concrete tile roof, while the single-storey buildings to the left have a corrugated iron roof. The barn has a long rectangular plan with a 20th-century extension at the rear and single-storey outbuildings. The right gable end once contained a two-sided, open-fronted yard.
On the north side of the barn, there are twin gabled porches with lean-to extensions on either side. Each porch has double plank doors with timber lintels, and there are lower double entrances in the wall opposite each porch. To the left of the left-hand porch, there is a single plank door, and small double plank doors lead to the lean-to between the porches. The former open-fronted yard on the left has the remains of five round stone-built columns that once divided the bays, although these are now blocked. Inside the barn, there are eight bays featuring original roof trusses, each consisting of a tie beam and braced collar.
