Description
The Rose Monument, located about 4 metres east of the east end of the chancel in the churchyard of the Church of St. Leonard, is a chest tomb dedicated to Christopher Rose and his son. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a plinth with moulded capping. On the south side, there is a sunken oval inscription panel flanked by finely carved rectangular panels adorned with foliate decoration. A similar inscription panel is found on the north side. The inscription at the west end commemorates Christopher Rose, son of Christopher Rose, and includes a sunken rectangular panel with the face of a winged cherub at the top. At the east end, the monogram of the initials C.R. is intertwined with the faces of two winged cherubs in the upper corners.
