Description

Maylyns is a late 17th to early 18th century house and cottage, with substantial alterations from the 19th century. It stands at the end of a row, on the corner of a street, alongside an outshut at the rear. The main part of the building is constructed of coursed, squared, and dressed limestone, with a brick section to the outshut, and has a stone slate roof. Ashlar stacks are present, one of which has been repaired and rendered in the 20th century. The building has a rectangular plan, comprising a late 17th to early 18th century block to the right and a 19th century cottage attached to the left.

The late 17th to early 18th century section is 1 1/2 storeys high, with two Cotswold dormers to the upper floor, each containing a two-light stone-mullioned casement. The ground floor has two and four-light stone-mullioned casements. All windows have double-chamfered surrounds and stopped hoods. The 19th century section is two storeys high, with two two-light casements with glazing bars to the upper floor. On the ground floor is a part-glazed plank door with a small single-light window to the right, a two-light casement with glazing bars to the left, a 19th century plank door with decorative hinges and a thumb latch to the far left, and a garage door to the right. All ground floor openings have cambered heads. Gable-end stacks are present on the late 17th to early 18th century section, and an axial stack on the 19th century section. The interior was not inspected.
