Description

The Bakehouse and Stone Flag Wall is a building dating from the 18th century, originally comprising three cottages and a village bakehouse. The earliest part, on the left-hand side, likely dates from 1741 and is inscribed with the initials "T S". The remainder of the building was probably constructed in the late 18th century. The exterior is built of limestone and sandstone, with a stone slate roof, and features ashlar stacks. The front has five window bays, each with double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements incorporating leaded panes and some early glass. A three-panelled door, protected by a gabled hood on wooden brackets, is located at the left end. The central portion has a painted door designed to resemble panelled doors, with a small projecting window to the right, which was formerly part of the bakehouse and includes '+' ended tie plates. The building has flat gable-end coping and gable-end stacks, along with two axial stacks. A stone flag boundary wall extends around the corner, fronting onto The Green. The interior has not been inspected.
