Description

Village Farm is a detached house, likely dating back to the 17th and early 18th centuries, with later extensions from the late 18th and 19th centuries, and alterations to the original structure in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, with a stone slate roof to the left end and a concrete tile roof on the right. There are ashlar and brick stacks. The building has a rectangular plan with a single-storey extension set at a right angle to the rear of the left side.

The main body of the house consists of two parts. The left side is two storeys high, featuring two half-dormers with 6-pane sash windows, each with a concrete lintel. Matching 6-pane sash windows are also present on the ground floor, along with a panelled door with partially glazed panes on the lower left. A late 18th-century extension is located on the right side, spanning three storeys and featuring a two-window arrangement. This extension has 20-pane sash windows on the ground and first floors, each framed by a plain surround with a moulded top, and keystones. The third floor has 12-pane casements within dressed surrounds. The left gable-end has a steeply pitched roof with flat gable-end coping and a brick stack. Ashlar gable-end stacks are present on the gable-ends of the late 18th-century part, with flat gable-end coping at the right gable-end. A ‘Tudor’ arched stone fireplace is within the far left-hand room. The interior of the house has not been inspected. A red brick extension is at the rear.
