Description

Gilberts Farmhouse is an 18th-century building, possibly with earlier origins and 19th-century alterations, originally two semi-detached houses now standing detached. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof, featuring 20th-century ashlar-style stacks and a brick stack to the rear right.

The main 18th-century section is rectangular, two storeys and an attic, with a gabled stair turret projecting from the rear roof. There are two, 2-light roof dormers illuminating the attic. The front facade has three windows, with 2- and 3-light casements featuring horizontal glazing bars within segmental-headed surrounds. A central double door is set within a moulded surround and topped with a metal canopy. Two 3-light stone mullioned casements with stepped hoods are present in the right-hand return. A 2-windowed 19th-century extension is located to the left; this has 3-light casements with horizontal glazing bars, and a centrally placed blocked doorway. The roof is hipped at the right end of the main 18th-century section, with a gable end and an axial stack. The interior was not inspected.
