Description
The Comedy is a detached house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a concrete tile roof and brick end stacks. The building is a single range with a blind gable end facing the street, featuring two storeys and an attic. At the rear, there is a small lean-to with a curved wall, along with a small additional single-storey wing to the south linked by a short passage.
The main facade, which faces south, has three windows with 12-pane sashes. These windows have timber lintels, flush stone surrounds, and decorative reeded architraves with moulded circular corner insets. The central window is painted blind to match the flanking two, except for two real panes. On the ground floor, there are two similar windows and a central doorcase with an arched flush stone surround, a shallow radial fanlight, and a six-panel door featuring three pairs of differently shaped fielded panels, which is a typical feature of Lechlade and possibly designed by Richard Pace. Internal shutters are preserved in some rooms, and there is a small flat-roofed central dormer with paired wooden casements.
