Description
Riverside House is a detached town house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with alternating flush quoins and features a hipped stone slate roof with a painted coved and moulded eaves cornice. The house has a large stone ridge stack with a brick flue located to the west of the main block, along with smaller scattered stacks. The main ranges to the east are two storeys high with an attic, facing High Street, while the wings extend to the north along the road and to the west, forming a U-shaped range.
The eastern facade has three windows on each floor, featuring 30-pane margin sashes from the late 18th or early 19th century, complete with original glass and surface sash boxes set in shallow reveals. There are also two gabled dormers, which are stone tile hung at the sides and contain twin 6-pane wooden casements. The entrance on High Street is accessed by two stone steps and is framed by attached wooden Doric columns, a small frieze, and an entablature, leading to a half-glazed door with lower recessed panels. The northern facade facing High Street displays scattered fenestration, mostly consisting of small sashes, along with one three-light stone mullion window on the first floor.
