Description
Sundial Cottage is a small house located on the north side of Main Street in Bourton-on-the-Hill. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and is part of a row of three houses. The building is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a limestone slate roof that features limestone coping and an artificial stone stack.
The cottage has a rectangular plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, which is illuminated by two modern 2-light roof dormers. The front facade has three windows: on the first floor, from left to right, there is a 12-pane sash window, a 2-light fixed casement window with a stopped hood, and another 12-pane wood casement window. On the ground floor, from left to right, there is a modern 3-light wood casement window, a central part-glazed plank door set in a flat-chamfered arched surround, and a 5-light canted bay window on the far right.
Notably, there is a sundial with painted black figures located at first floor level, and a sun insurance plaque is positioned below it. The right gable end features flat coping and a stack. The interior of the cottage has not been inspected.
