Description

Hillside is a former pair of cottages, now combined into a single dwelling, dating from the 18th century and located on Main Street in Bourton-on-the-Hill. The building is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, with a limestone slate roof, limestone gable end coping, and one ashlar chimney stack. It has a rectangular plan with a short, gabled projection to the rear left. The building is two storeys high with an attic, lit by three 2-light dormers across the eaves, with a dormer to the right. A narrow, panelled door is set up six steps at the far left, featuring a plain, flat-chamfered surround. To the right of this is a 2-light window, a canted 5-light bay window with a limestone slate roof, and a plank door with cover strips, set in a flat-chamfered surround, with a 20th-century 2-light frosted glass window above. Two 3-light casements are located to the far right, with a segmental head over the lower window. Most of the windows are late 19th/early 20th century metal casements with leaded lights. The gable end has slightly stepped coping. A single right gable end stack is present, with a moulded capping. A 20th-century artificial stone stack has replaced a former ashlar stack, situated off-centre to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
