Description

This field barn and adjoining animal shelter, located in Coates Village, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble stone and features a stone slate roof. The south-west side has a central projecting gabled cart entry, which includes quoins and a tile-hung gable, along with an opposed entry that has a shallow projecting raking roof. There is a pitch hole on the south-east gable end and to the left of the north-east entry, with two tiers of slit ventilation.

The interior of the barn is not accessible. The adjoining animal shelter, located at the south-west corner, consists of six bays supported by timber posts set on concreted bases, with wooden mangers still present along the rear wall.
