Description
The Old Rectory is a large detached house located in Coates Village, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with quoins, featuring a moulded cornice and blocking course. The roof has stone slates on the outer pitches and slates on the inner pitches, with ashlar end stacks that have offsets, some topped with domical caps. The building has a double main range with set back side wings and a rear cross range to the right-hand wing, and it stands two storeys tall.
The façade includes three windows with 12-pane sashes, each topped with large flush stone lintels and a plat band below. On the ground floor, there are triple sashes with 4/12/4 panes flanking a central stone doorcase, which features a door with six flush panels and a radial fanlight above. A projecting stone porch is supported by two Doric columns on bases, featuring a moulded entablature and a flat roof. The side wings have a 16-pane sash on the ground floor and a 12-pane sash above. Although the interior is not accessible, most windows retain their internal shutters.
