Description
The detached house at Trustams Mead dates to the 17th Century, with later additions from the 18th and 19th Centuries. It is constructed of random rubble limestone, with rendered and random rubble chimneys and a stone-slate roof. The original plan was a two-story, two-room layout with a cross passage, which was later expanded with a two-story addition with an attic to the west. The east front was remodelled in the 19th Century, and a single-story service wing was added to the north. The east front has a large gable, with part of the original 17th-century house projecting to the south. A single-light, recessed, chamfered window with a hoodmould is on the upper floor of the 17th-century section, above a timber casement with a timber lintel. The main gable has two windows on the ground floor, one window on the upper floor, and a window in the attic, all timber casements with timber lintels. Exposed purlin ends are visible above. A gable end to the south has an altered upper floor window. A tall, rendered chimney resembling ashlar is on the south side of the rear wing, and there are two small upper floor windows with chamfered jambs. The rear gable has scattered windows; on the ground floor, a deep, 19th-century three-light recessed chamfered mullioned window with a hoodmould, a two-light recessed cavetto mullioned window with a hoodmould, and a similar two-light window on the upper floor. A timber casement with a timber lintel is in the attic, with exposed purlin ends above. A paired, round-headed stone window is above the doorway into the service wing, with a plank door. The interior includes a blocked two-light window on the ground floor facing the service wing, and, on the upper floor, a close-studded timber-framed partition with a middle rail. A large stone fireplace with a moulded Tudor arch is in a ground floor room.
