Description
Alice's House is a building of group value, originally two houses, now combined into one. The upper house was built in the late 17th century, and the lower house in the early 18th century. A 20th-century addition was made at the rear. The construction is random rubble limestone, with window dressings to the lower house. It features ashlar chimneys with moulded caps and skirts, and a stone-slate roof.
The upper house is a single-storey building with an attic, arranged as a single-room plan. The lower house is two storeys high, with two rooms. A single-storey wing with an attic extends to the rear.
The front of the lower house has a scattered arrangement of windows, including three two-light chamfered mullioned windows without hoodmoulds, two to the upper floor. A further two-light window was added to the ground floor centre. A small timber casement with a timber lintel sits to the right. The central doorway leads to the upper house and is flanked by timber casements, all with timber lintels. Above the windows are three rows of pigeon holes, and there is a central roof dormer.
The rear of the house and wing also have a scattered arrangement of timber casements with timber lintels. To the left of the doorway in the back wing are a pair of small stone round-headed windows.
