Description

Walnut Tree House is a detached house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed of limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins and features a red tile roof with ashlar stacks. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar. The main structure is rectangular, with a 20th-century extension added to the right gable end when viewed from the garden front. There is also a 20th-century porch extension at the rear, which is not of special interest.

The garden front is symmetrical with two windows. It includes two original mid-17th-century hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods, alongside two 20th-century stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods. The central entrance features a part-glazed door with a segmental surround. The 20th-century Cotswold-style extension projects forward to the right.

At the rear, the fenestration from left to right consists of 20th-century single and two-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods on the ground floor, and a single-light cellar window in the lower right. The first floor features a two-light stone-mullioned casement with 4-centred arched heads to each light, a hollow-moulded mullion, carved spandrels, and a stopped hood. There is also a single 17th-century light with a stopped hood to the right, two-light 20th-century stone-mullioned casements, and a 17th-century two-light stone-mullioned hollow-chamfered mullion with a stopped hood far right. The house has stepped coped gables and a roll-cross saddle to the right gable end, along with a gable-end and axial stack, which has been reduced in height. The interior is not accessible but is reputed to contain a good fireplace.
