Description
Wood House is a manor house dating from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th century and further restoration and changes in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a limestone slate roof and features ashlar stacks. The building has a rectangular main body with 20th-century entrance porches projecting on either side, creating an almost symmetrical facade.
The house is two storeys high with an attic, which is lit by two 20th-century, two-light casements. The facade has five windows, including original 12-pane sashes with wide glazing bars set within moulded architraves. There are two double-chamfered, 2-light stone-mullioned casements that are now blocked, located in the cellar on the lower right. Each porch has a single bulls-eye window set back on either side of the main body.
The central entrance features a double 20th-century fielded panelled door flanked by engaged Doric columns, topped with a triangular pediment. The original double-chamfered cross windows, some of which are blocked, can be found towards the front of the left and right-hand walls. The front roof has a parapet with inset rectangular panels and a central ball finial. At the center of the roof, there is a 20th-century octagonal lantern with an ogee-shaped top. The interior has been substantially altered from its original plan.
