Description

This is a row of six identical cottages located at 1-6, Bathurst Row. Built in the early to mid-19th century, they are arranged as three pairs. The cottages are constructed of coursed and dressed rubble stone with tile roofs. A central ridge stack rises between numbers 5 and 6, with a stone base and brick flue. Brick flues are also present on numbers 1/2 and 3/4. The main structure is a single range with a rear extension centrally located. Each cottage is two storeys high and features two small gables, each containing twin leaded wooden casement windows. A similar window is positioned on the outer edge of each cottage. A projecting gabled porch with a stone Tudor archway leads to a boarded door at the rear, and contains a three-light leaded casement window on the inside. All six cottages remain largely intact; the only alteration is the addition of a half-glazed door to the front of the porch of number 1. These cottages hold group value as a cohesive example of early 19th-century domestic architecture.
