Description
The barn opposite Icomb Lodge is a Grade II listed building dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from alternating courses of orange and cream colored coursed squared and dressed limestone, with an extension built from the same limestone but without the alternating pattern. The main body of the barn features a concrete tile roof, while the extension has a stone slate roof.
The barn has a rectangular plan with an extension on the right gable end. On the west side, there is a double-width entrance with timber jambs, a lintel, and wooden brackets that reach up to eaves height. There is a lower double-width entrance directly opposite this. To the right, a 20th-century fixed casement window has been added, along with a similar casement inserted into the blocking of a single-width doorway in the extension. The side walls and gable end have ventilation slits with small diamond-shaped openings at the top. At the rear, to the left of the double-width doorway, there are two high single-width doorways with timber lintels.
The extension is 1½ storeys high and includes a single-width doorway with a timber lintel and a small single-light window on the ground floor at the rear. There is also a pitching window with a raking roof in the loft. Inside, the barn has five bays and features original collar and tie beam roof trusses with halved apexes and double butt purlins. A loft has been inserted within the roof space of the two right-hand bays, supported by two timber uprights on stone bases along the axis.
