Description

Manor Cottages is a semi-detached house that was originally a large town house, now divided into two residences. It dates from the mid 17th century and the 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with an ashlar facade, topped by a stone slate roof and featuring 20th century stone stacks. The main structure has a rectangular lobby entrance plan and includes 19th century single-storey extensions at the rear.

The facade is symmetrical with twin gables and consists of two storeys and an attic. It features two, three, and four-light stone-mullioned casements, all with stopped hoods and leaded panes. The central entrance has a 20th century part-glazed front door set within a moulded surround that includes imposts and a keystone decorated with a carved face and foliate design, also featuring a stopped hood. The building has axial and gable-end stacks with moulded cappings, and the gable ends have flat coping moulded at the eaves with roll-cross saddles. At the rear, there are single light and three-light stone-mullioned casements with horizontal glazing bars.

Manor Cottages was formerly the residence of the Parker family, who were prominent in the town during the 16th and 17th centuries. John Parker is buried in the south chapel of the church, with a burial date of 1692. The interior of the building is not accessible.
