Description

Green Close with Well Head is a large detached house located off Cricklade Street in Poulton. Originally built in the mid to late 17th century, it was significantly enlarged in the late 20th century. The house is constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof. A central stone ridge stack is positioned on the main range, featuring two gables. The house has been extended to the northeast, almost doubling its size, and a smaller extension has been added to the southwest, incorporating an existing outbuilding.

The original range exhibits two gables to the southeast, each featuring renewed two-light stone mullions and large similar windows below. Similar fenestration is found throughout the house. A doorway is positioned under the left-hand gable, with a 20th-century boarded door and a flat stone hood above. The large stack contains a substantial cambered timber bressumer fireplace with a bread oven on one side. This room also features a chamfered spine beam with run-out stops. The roof is of an 'A'-frame construction. The original rear range has two gables, with corresponding gables in the new wing.

Adjoining the original outbuilding and located in front of the house is a small stone well structure.
