Description

Great Farmcote is a manor house dating from the 17th to 18th century, with 19th-century extensions. The main body is constructed from roughly coursed, squared, and dressed limestone, while the 19th-century extension features similar stonework. The building has a limestone slate roof and an ashlar stack. The main part of the house has a rectangular plan and is two storeys high with a garret, along with a cellar at the rear. Attached to the left gable end is an 'L'-shaped 19th-century extension that projects forward on the right. There is also a late 19th-century single-storey extension at the rear left.

The facade has four windows, featuring 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with horizontal glazing bars in the 17th-18th century section. The 19th-century part includes 2 and 3-light stone-mullioned casements with cusped heads, carved spandrels, and stopped hoods. A plank door is located at the lower right of the 19th-century extension, set within a Tudor arched surround with a hood above. Another plank door is found at the lower right of the 17th-18th century body, flanked by tall pilasters that extend upwards on either side of a now-blocked 2-light stone-mullioned window, which has an open triangular pediment above. The arms of the Stratford family are displayed within this pediment. There is a 19th-century projecting stair turret to the left of the door, a roll-cross saddle at the right gable end of the 17th-18th century body, and a twin diagonal stack at the junction of the axes on the left. A pointed stone finial is positioned at the apex of the gable front. The interior has not been inspected.
