Description
Mary's Acre is a building that likely dates from the mid-17th century and was extended in the early 18th century, although the date-stones from 1643 and 1713 may not be reliable. The structure is built of plain rubble and features stone tiled roofs with ashlar chimneys that have moulded capping. The south wing has a gable end facing the road with one range of windows, while there is a lower thatched wing to the right. The rear of the building includes a range of ovolo moulded three-light mullion windows, followed by an early 18th-century wing made of coursed rubble, which has irregular fenestration on the ground floor. The central first-floor window has a decorated panel to the left. Access to the building is from the rear. Inside, the 18th-century wing has a central fireplace with a wide cambered lintel, and another fireplace at the north end features a logging hatch to the outside. The 17th-century wing at the south end has an altered fireplace.
