Description

DRIFFIELD HARNHILL SP 00 SE 4/38 The Old Rectory II Detached house. Early C19 refacing in Gothick style of older house, possibly of late C17. Coursed and dressed rubble stone with pilaster strips with cornice corners, stone slate roof with coped verges, scattered stone stacks. Double range, 2 storeys and attic. Main front to south has 3 small coped gables with saddlestones, central gable having kneelers. Three windows, with central projecting bay with alternating flush quoins. First floor has twin 8-pane sashes in moulded stone architraves with square hoodmoulds. Ground floor has triple 8-pane sashes in similar surrounds flanking central door with depressed wide stone Tudor arch with square hoodmould on stone architrave and double half-glazed doors with Gothick panelling. Coat of arms over. Attic has twin 6-pane casements, some recently renewed, in similar surround to other windows. Interior has wood newel stair to one side and fine Gothick main staircase with pointed arch bannisters. Porch mentioned in Buildings of England - Gloucestershire: The Cotswolds, (1979, David Verey), has been removed.
