Description
Nos. 4-7 on Park Street is a former row of six cottages, dating from the mid-18th century. The building is constructed from coursed rubble stone and features a stone slate roof at the front, with concrete tiles at the rear and partially rebuilt brick stacks. The row has been restored in the late 20th century by the Ernest Cook Trust, the current owners.
The structure is a single long row of two storeys and an attic, with a modern brick lean-to extending along the entire rear. The roofline is broken at No. 7, which is double fronted and taller than the others. There are ten windows in total, all wooden casements with timber lintels, except for one 16-pane sash window with a stone surround on No. 5. The ground floor features nine windows, all three-light modern casements with concrete lintels, except for No. 4, which matches the first-floor style. The building has seven hipped dormers, each with paired casements.
The entrance to No. 4 is located on the left-hand return, while No. 5 has a segmental head chamfered flush stone doorcase with a recessed plank door and a shallow segmental radial fanlight. There is a throughway between Nos. 5 and 6, and Nos. 6 and 7 have half-glazed modern doors. It is noted that Nos. 8-11 do not exist.
