Description
This is a barn located approximately 15 meters northeast of Staple Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of random squared limestone with dressed quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn has an asymmetrical 'T'-shaped plan, with a projecting half-hipped stone porch on the south side and a lean-to extension to the right of the porch.
The former double doorway to the porch has been blocked with corrugated plastic and boarding, and there is a similar blockage on the opposing wall's double doorway. Stone steps lead up to a single-width plank door in the left-hand wall, while the lean-to has two 20th-century plank doors. The barn includes ventilation slits in the side walls and gable ends, and the gable-end coping is stepped with roll-cross saddles. The porch roof is half-hipped. Inside, the barn features four bays with original roof trusses that include collar and tie beams, as well as double butt purlins.
