Description
This barn, located approximately 60 metres west of Lower Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of random limestone with dressed stone quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn has a rectangular plan with a projecting porch at the centre of the east side and a lean-to extension to the right of the porch. There is a 20th-century lean-to to the left of the porch and at the rear, which is not of special interest.
The south front includes the porch with double plank doors positioned off-centre to the right, a large owl hole with a landing above, and a double plank doorway directly opposite. The side and end walls have square ventilation or putlog holes with dressed stone jambs. The gable ends are topped with flat coping and additional owl holes. Inside, the barn consists of five bays featuring original collar and tie-beams with double purlins. The earliest graffiti found inside dates back to 1779.
