Description
The Bear is an inn that dates back to the 17th century, with extensions from the 18th to early 19th centuries. The building is rendered and features a stone slate roof along with ashlar stacks. It has an 'L'-shaped main body from the 17th century, with 18th to early 19th century extensions in the angle between the two ranges, and a further extension of a similar date to the left of the forward-facing gable.
The 17th-century range is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, while the later extensions are also two storeys. The entrance front has the gable end of the 17th-century range at the centre, featuring 16-pane sash windows with horns on the ground floor. The extension to the left has two similar sash windows on the ground floor. To the right, there are two tripartite sashes with horns on both the ground and first floors, along with a six-panelled door topped by a fanlight within a round-headed surround.
On the north-facing gable end of the 17th-century range, there is a tripartite sash window with a segmental head on the ground floor, and a matching tripartite sash on the first floor. The attic features a two-light casement with leaded panes. The gable ends have stacks. Inside, there are beams with ogee and diamond stops, as well as some late 18th-century panelling.
