Description
The statue of Edward Wilson is located approximately 80 meters southwest of the main entrance to the Municipal Offices in Cheltenham. Erected in 1914, this bronze statue was sculpted by Lady Scott, who later became known as Lady Kennet. The statue was cast and the stone was provided by R.L. Boulton and Sons of Cheltenham, at a cost of £300, which was raised through public subscription. Edward Adrian Wilson was known as the medical and artistic member of Robert Falcon Scott's ill-fated expedition to the South Pole.
The Promenade, where the statue is situated, was established in 1818 as a tree-lined avenue that connects the Colonnade in High Street to the Sherborne Spa, which is now the site of the Queen's Hotel.
