Description

A Methodist chapel, dating to 1812 and now a house, with attached gates. Designed by Charles Williams and costing £2,424, it is constructed of stucco over brick with an ashlar plinth. The building is two storeys with three bays, featuring a narrow, pedimented central bay flanked by wider wings with swept parapets. The windows are round-arched 8/8 sashes with radial glazing to the heads, set within round-arched recesses and separated by bands over the ground and first floors. The central entrance has a part-glazed door with a radial bar fanlight, now under a replaced Doric portico. The left return has a low-storey, single-bay section. The right return features two levels of similar sashes, recessed with tooled architraves. The interior has not been inspected. The attached gates have bars and dogbars, topped with urn finials to the stanchions. This is one of the earliest chapels in Cheltenham, and its facade is characteristic of many Late Georgian urban chapels of a similar size.
