Description

Promenade House, also known as the 'Echo' Office, is a villa that has been converted into offices, dating from around 1820 to 1850. The building is constructed of brick with a stucco facade and has a concealed roof, featuring iron window guards.

The exterior consists of two storeys and three bays, with five first-floor windows arranged in a 2:3:2 pattern. The left return includes a basement. The outer bays are slightly projected and have pediments. Stucco detailing includes full-height fluted pilasters at the ends of the outer bays, along with an architrave, frieze, and cornice. The windows are set in tooled architraves, with those on the ground floor featuring cornices. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows, while the ground floor has stepped tripartite windows in the outer bays, which include sashes with upper margin-lights.

A central tetrastyle Tuscan portico features an architrave and frieze adorned with wreaths and a cornice, and it contains renewed glazed doors. The left return has eight first-floor windows arranged in a 3:5 pattern. The ground floor on the right side displays horizontal rustication. There is a first-floor band, crowning frieze, and cornice. The windows include 1/1 sashes (some with margin-lights), 2/2, and 6/6 sashes, with tripartite windows on the far left for both the ground and first floors, set in tooled surrounds. The ground floor window in this section also has a frieze and cornice, with the next window-bay featuring similar surrounds. The entrance is located on the right side, with steps leading up to a five-panel door.

The interior has not been inspected. The building also features spearhead window guards at the basement level. For additional details regarding the rear of the 'Echo' premises, refer to Nos 1-6 Clarence Parade.
