Description

A pair of semi-detached houses dating from approximately 1840 to 1860. The houses are constructed of stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof and stuccoed party wall and end stacks. The facades break forward twice. The front has a first-floor band and paired end pilasters, with detailing between the windows. The first floor has 2/2 horizontal-pane sash windows, while the ground floor features 2/2 sashes, a central tripartite window, and 1/1 sashes in wider, elliptically-arched recesses. Six-panel doors with fanlights are set in plain round-arched reveals, with tooled arches to the head supported by corbel brackets. Louvred shutters are present on the ground floor to the right. The interior has not been inspected. Painswick Road was laid out by Charles Baker to connect Cheltenham with Painswick, following an Act of 1820. These houses form part of a significant group of villas.
