Description
The Octagonal Lodge, located approximately 15 meters northwest of the Cemetery Chapels in Cheltenham Cemetery, is a lodge built in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of timber with a metal roof and features an octagonal shape. The design includes alternate open sides with benches arranged in a cross formation inside. The lower stage of each side is made of horizontal planking, topped with vertical planking. Above the benches, there are glazed windows, and the structure is topped with a tent roof that has finials. This lodge is an unusual and nearly unique example of a cemetery shelter and is part of a notable group that includes the Cemetery Chapels and the Tomb of Thomas Champion.
