Description

The inner gateway to the cemetery in Cheltenham was built around 1864 by W.H. Knight. It features cast-iron railings topped with fleur-de-lys caps. The gate piers are square in section, made of ashlar stone, and are designed with broached drum and cone capping, each topped with a cross. The gateway includes enriched iron double gates, a pedestrian gate on the left, and enriched railings on either side, with scroll and spike heads extending approximately 9 meters to the right and about 15 meters to the left. Notably, Knight won the competition to design the cemetery in 1862.
