Description

The dovecote, located approximately 35 metres south of Priory's Piece, dates from the 17th to early 18th century and was formerly part of the grounds of The Priory. It features bands of coursed squared and dressed limestone, alternating with narrow bands of thin-bedded stone, and has an artificial stone slate roof. The structure has a square plan and stands two storeys tall, with a flat-chamfered plinth.

On the north side, there is a small narrow doorway with a flat-chamfered surround that is now blocked. The south side has a large segmental-headed opening, likely from the 19th century, which has been fitted with double doors and glazed. There is also a small window with leaded panes on the east side and a small opening with a segmental brick head above it, which is now blocked with brick. The dovecote has a pyramidal roof topped with an access lantern at the apex, featuring blocked sides and a ball finial. Inside, there are pigeon holes built into the walls of the upper floor.
