Description
This barn, located approximately 10 meters west of Leckhampton Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century to mid-17th century, with partial rebuilding in 1810. It features weatherboarded squared-panelled timber framing set on a coursed squared and dressed limestone plinth, with coursed squared and dressed gable ends and a red tile roof. The barn has a rectangular plan with a projecting porch and lean-to extensions with a swept roof on the south side, as well as another lean-to at the east gable end.
On the south side, there is a projecting gabled porch positioned off-center to the left, with lean-tos on either side. The north side has two sets of double doors and a shuttered pitching window. A ventilation slit with a Celtic style carved head is located above the east gable end. The west gable end was partially rebuilt using small coursed squared and dressed limestone, marked by a datestone inscribed 'J. CLARK / BUILDER / 1810', and features three ventilation slits.
Inside, the barn consists of six bays with original roof trusses that have tie-beams supported by diagonal struts, along with double purlins and raking struts to the collar beam. While some tiles are missing from the roof, the timber framing was reported to be sound during the last survey in January 1987.
