Description
Alstone House, the premises of A H Taylor Limited, is a house built in the late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features brick construction with stucco facades and slate roofs.
The building is two storeys high with attics, and has three windows on the first floor and a two-window range at the rear. The main range has quoins at the corners, and the central entrance includes a 20th-century door with an overlight. The ground and first floors have 6/6 sash windows set in elliptically-arched surrounds. The roof dormers contain casement windows and decorative barge-boards. There is a rear left stack and a large external stack on the extension, while the rear range mainly features 6/6 sash windows.
Inside, little remains except for the late 17th-century and 18th-century roof structure.
Historically, this building was likely a merchant's house with associated workshops.
