Description

This building, originally two houses, now comprises three shops and a flat, was constructed around 1830 and has undergone later alterations. A shop front was added to the left in the 1970s, and a shop front was installed on the right around 1880 for a business named Morris. The exterior is stucco over brick, with concealed roof and brick and stucco party-wall stacks.

The building is two storeys high with four first-floor windows. The first floor has a scored finish imitating ashlar, a moulded sill band, a crowning band and cornice (moulded on the left and renewed on the right), a low parapet raised into shallow pediments at each end, and tooled architraves to the first-floor windows, each with feet. The first floor windows are mostly tripartite 6/6 sashes between 2/2 sashes, while the ground floor has a glazed shop front on the left. To the off-centre right is a glazed window with apron and a part-glazed entrance, both with fanlights and set within tooled architraves and keystones. A tiled shop front is located to the right, displaying the name "MORRIS. FISHMONGER. POULTERER" on its frieze. Corinthian-type pilasters with tiled insets, depicting poultry, fish, and Classical figures, are present around the shop entrance and at the ends of the building, supported by a cornice on paired consoles. A four-panel door with overlight is located to the left of the glazed shop front, and a part-glazed shop entrance is located to the off-centre left.

The interior of the building has not been inspected. The design is notable for its Greek Revival influence, particularly evident in the stele-shaped detail to the projecting end bays.
