Description
Mansard House is one of a pair of houses built in the 18th century. It features coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof on the pitch facing High Street and red tiles at the rear. The chimney stacks are made of cream-colored brick. The house has a 'T'-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, which is lit by two 9-pane segmental-headed windows. There is also a cellar.
The facade has three windows, with two 12-pane sash windows in the left-hand bay. The right-hand bay features a tripartite sash window on the first floor and a 3-light bow window with sashes on the ground floor. A central flush 6-panel door with a fanlight is accessed by five stone steps, set back within a round-headed panelled reveal. There are two boot scrapers with wrought-iron decoration on the top step and a blind window above the doorway. The sills of the first-floor windows extend as a narrow band across the facade, with a wider band below. Pilasters are present at both right and left corners, and gable-end stacks are visible. The gable ends have flat coping, and spear-headed railings run across the width of the facade. The interior has not been inspected.
