Description
The walls and balustrades of the Italian Garden at Arle Court were built around 1857 by architect JJ Rowland for Thomas Packer Walter Butt. The structure features an ashlar shaped exedra to the west of the house, adorned with Tudor strapwork balustrading. There is a notable iron gate with panelled piers located to the south-west, along with another gate to the east. The balustrade serves as a balcony leading to the entrance from the terrace, with steps that descend to the yew avenue. It also extends to the north-west corner and returns to the house, incorporating fine panelled ashlar gate piers topped with carved lions, which have iron tails. All listed elements at Arle Court create a cohesive and impressive group.
