Description
Greville Lodge is a villa, likely dating from the 1820s to 1830s, with a later 19th-century addition to its right side. It is constructed of brick with a stucco facade, and has a slate roof with brick and stucco ridge stacks. The house is arranged on a double-depth plan with a hallway on the right side.
The two-storey villa has a basement and five windows on the first floor, the leftmost window being set within a curved angle. The windows are largely 6/6 sashes, with taller windows on the ground floor, and curved sashes in the angled bay. The third window on the first floor is blind, and there is a full-height canted bay with 1/1 sashes. The basement is concealed. The main entrance, on the right side of the villa, has a flight of steps leading to a six-panel door with sidelights and a fanlight featuring decorative glazing bars within an Ionic porch. Above the porch is an Ionic pilaster, alongside a crowning frieze, cornice, and blocking course with copings. The gable ends are raised. The left return elevation has four windows, mostly 6/6 sashes, with the end bay being blind. The ground floor of this elevation has a tripartite 1/1 sash window. The interior of the villa has not been inspected.
Attached to the porch are railings with a concave scrolled lozenge design. The villa is shown on Merrett’s Map of 1834 and shares a similar design to Greville House on Gratton Road.
