Description
Owlpen is a detached house dating from the 17th century, which has been restored and extended in the 20th century. The building features close-studded and square-panelled timber framing with rendered infill, set on a plinth made of large blocks of coursed squared and dressed limestone. The right gable end and the projecting stack are constructed of brick, and the roof is covered with stone slates. The main body of the house has a rectangular plan with a later extension at the rear.
The house is two storeys high and has a variety of windows, including a single light, 2-light, and 5-light casements on the ground floor. On the first floor, two 4-light casements project slightly, and both are supported by moulded wooden brackets. There is a timber-framed gable over the left-hand casement. The entrance features an early plank door with decorative strap hinges and an early thumb latch, set within a beaded heavy-pegged frame that has carved decoration with a four-petalled motif at the centre top. The interior has not been inspected. An attached garage on the right side is not of special interest.
