Description

Stamford House, now used as an office, was built between 1820 and 1834. The building features stucco over brick with a concealed roof and is accompanied by area railings. It stands three storeys high with a basement and has four windows on the first floor. Architectural details include rustication on the ground floor, an incised band on the second floor, an entablature above the second floor, and a cornice with a blocking course at the top. The windows are 6/6 sashes on the ground floor, 3/3 on the second floor, and 3/6 in the basement, with the ground floor windows set in wider, segmental-arched recesses. The first-floor windows have tooled architraves, while those on the second floor feature an incised Greek key surround. Access to the entrance is via a flight of eight roll-edged steps leading to a six-panel door with margin-lights and a cambered overlight that has batwing and circle type glazing bars in a segmental-arched recess. The interior has not been inspected. The area railings are made of wrought iron and feature spearhead bars and dogbars with urn finials, while stick railings line the sides of the steps. The verandah includes a balustrade with roundel and heart motifs and double scroll designs on the uprights, along with an openwork frieze.
