Description
The Reading Room is a parish room that was originally a cottage, built in the 18th century with a 19th-century lean-to addition. The building has rendered cob walls and a thatched roof that is gabled on the right side and hipped on the left end, with a slate roof on the rear outshut.
The original plan likely featured two rooms, but it has been altered to consist of a single room that is two storeys high, with the internal partitions and floors removed. The 19th-century lean-to has external access at the right-hand end.
The exterior is two storeys tall and has a regular two-window front. The first floor features late 19th-century or early 20th-century three-light casements, while the ground floor has a fixed light. There is also a late 19th-century or early 20th-century gabled wooden porch with decorative barge-boards and a finial, behind which is a 19th-century plank door.
Inside, the fireplace has a modern grate, and the only visible old feature is a 19th-century wall cupboard with panelled doors.
