Description
This is a pair of houses that include a post office, likely dating from the early 18th century, although firm dating evidence is lacking. The building has walls constructed of rendered cob and rubble, and a hipped thatched roof. There are two brick stacks – one positioned centrally and the other at the right gable end.
The houses are planned with two rooms each. "The Village" section has its right-hand room heated by a central stack, while the Post Office has its right-hand room heated by an end stack. The post office itself is situated within its left-hand room.
The exterior presents an asymmetrical five-window front, dating from the early 20th century, featuring four-pane sash windows, with the exception of a 20th-century fixed window to the left on the ground floor. "The Village" has a 20th-century panelled and glazed door slightly left of centre, and a similar door leads into the right-hand room of the Post Office on the right side. A 20th-century shop window is located centrally, with a matching part-glazed door directly to its right.
The interior shows no early architectural features, although it is possible that some may have been concealed during later work.
