Description
The Church of All Saints is a parish church located in Monkokehampton. The tower dates from the early 16th century, while the rest of the church was rebuilt in 1855 by Sir Stafford Northcote. It features stone rubble walls that are coursed to the tower with granite quoins, and has a gable-ended slate roof adorned with decorative ridge tiles and an octagonal stone battlemented chimney.
The surviving structure includes a three-stage tower with chamfered stringcourses, battlements, and crocketted pinnacles topped with small crosses. The tower has two-light square-headed belfry openings and a four-centred arched granite west doorway with roll and hollow moulding. There is also a late Perpendicular simple three-light granite west window and slits for stairs on the north side. The nave contains Perpendicular style one, two, and three-light windows, while the east window is four-light. A single-storey gabled south porch features a chamfered two-centred arched doorway.
Inside, the church has a simply moulded four-centre arched south doorway and a pointed chancel arch with an inscription above it. The tower arch is four-centred with a broad chamfer. On the south wall of the chancel, there is a cusped arch from a former sepulchre that was originally on the north wall of the old church. The nave has a simple arch-braced roof, while the chancel features an A-frame roof and likely retains its original stencilled frieze at chair rail level. The font is from the 20th century, and there are wall memorials in the tower dating from 1671 and 1754. Notably, the east window was displayed at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
