Description

The structure is a wall with a gateway and an attached cottage, located to the southwest of Walreddon Manor. The wall and gateway date from the mid-17th century, while the cottage may also have 17th-century origins but was remodeled in the early 18th century, especially on the northwest side facing Walreddon Manor. The building has been altered in the 20th century to serve as living accommodation.

Constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings, the structure features a slate roof with raised coped verges. The wall connects the former outbuilding to Walreddon Manor, acting as a screen wall between the front of the house and the adjacent stable yard. The outbuilding has a rectangular plan and has been completely remodeled internally.

The wall measures about 10 meters long and 5 meters high, topped with a cornice, and includes a tall four-centred arched gateway with double doors. The two-storey cottage attached at the end has a gable end featuring a pedimental gable with granite acorns on plinths. The wall is built in two sections, with a straight joint to the right of the gateway, and there is a blocked segmental-headed opening with a key block in the second section at a lower level.

On the right side of the cottage, there is an attached wall that ramps down to the right, leading to a pointed arched chamfered doorway. The cottage has two windows, all 20th-century two-light casements, along with a central half-glazed door and an early dripstone or remains of a string course to the right. The roof is hipped behind the 18th-century gable. The rear gable end of the cottage features 20th-century glazed doors and a blocked single granite light to the right, with a 20th-century two-light casement at the first floor on the right side. The left side has chamfered ventilation slits, two at ground level and two at the first floor. The rear gable end has a rubble stack. The interior has not been inspected.
