Description
The building is a stable with a loft over, located about 12 meters east of West Raddon Farmhouse. It dates from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The ground floor is constructed from stone rubble, while the first floor is hung with rag slates and features a corrugated asbestos roof that is gabled at both ends. Originally, the structure served as a granary supported by a timber frame raised on six tall stone rubble staddles with stone caps, creating a cartshed below. In the 19th century, the cartshed was converted into two stables by infilling with stone rubble between the staddles, and the granary was transformed into a loft by adding a flight of stone steps at the left gable end. A 20th-century lean-to garage is attached to the rear wall. There are two timber stable entrances on the front, fixed to the left and right staddles, and a small unglazed timber window is located in the right gable end of the loft. A flight of stone rubble steps leads up to the loft entrance in the left gable end. This original design of a granary raised on tall staddles is an unusual survival in the region.
