Description
Sydenham Mill is a house and adjoining water mill, with the mill now disused. It dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of stone rubble, with the house partly whitewashed and featuring a slate roof that is gabled at one end. There are two stone chimneys, one on the ridge and another at the junction with the mill. The mill has a hipped slate roof and is positioned at right angles to the house, forming a T-plan. At one time, the mill had water wheels at both ends, but these, along with the machinery, no longer exist. The house was originally a single-cell cottage and has been extended in two stages. It is two storeys high. There is a large entrance to the mill under a timber lintel. The mill retains a roof from around the mid-18th century, with purlins and most rafters intact, although it is currently only half-floored. The house has three windows and a front door located on the right side under a slate canopy supported by iron brackets. The windows are modern 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The interior has been modernised.
